사십년전 아폴로 14호의 달 착륙모듈인 안타레스의 창문에서 바라보던 mitchell이 달의 표면을 순서대로 찍었습니다. Apollo Lunar Surface Journal의 편집자인 eric johns는 이 사진들을 합성해서 하나의 사진으로 만들었습니다. 달에서 두번째와 마지막 걸음(작업)이 끝난뒤의 Fra Mauro 고지대의 모습이 사진에 보이네요. 착륙지점의 북서쪽 방향으로요. 앞에 가장 눈에 띄는건 운송장비모듈입니다. 바퀴는 두개고 손수레처럼 생겨서 장비나 샘플을 옮기는데 사용되었죠. 가운데 위쪽 수평선에 1.5미터 남짓의 돌덩이는 거북이 바위로 이름지어졌어요. 거북이바위 아래쪽 얕은 크레이터 안에는 Mitchell이 던져놓은 창 모양의 기다란 흰 샘플링 도구의 핸들도 있습니다. Mitchell의 달 착륙우주비행사이자 우주에서 첫 미국인인 Alan shepard는 두 개의 골프공을 치기위해 6번 아이온(골프채)를 임시로 만들기도 했습니다. 둘 중 하나의 골프공이 Mitchell의 흰 막대기 아래에 흰 점으로 보입니다.

Forty years ago, while looking out the window of Apollo 14's Lunar Module Antares, astronaut Ed Mitchell snapped a series of photos of the lunar surface, assembled into this detailed mosaic by Apollo Lunar Surface Journal editor Eric Jones. The view looks across the Fra Mauro highlands to the northwest of the landing site after the Apollo 14 astronauts had completed their second and final walk on the Moon. Prominent in the foreground is their Modular Equipment Transporter (MET), a two-wheeled, rickshaw-like device used to carry tools and samples. Near the horizon at top center is a 1.5 meter wide boulder dubbed Turtle rock. In the shallow crater below Turtle rock is the long white handle of a sampling instrument, thrown there javelin-style by Mitchell. Mitchell's fellow moonwalker and first American in space, Alan Shepard, also used a makeshift six iron to hit two golf balls.
